What is Hypnotherapy?

What exactly is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a technique that uses the practice of hypnosis to place a person into an altered state of awareness. This state is achieved using a combination of relaxation and highly focused attention.
Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that is used to address a wide range of issues, including changing unhealthy habits, overcoming phobias or fears, dealing with mental distress, or shifting behaviours to achieve desired goals.
What happens during my hypnosis session?
During a hypnotherapy session, I’ll use guided relaxation techniques to help you enter a state of deep relaxation, focus and concentration. You’ll remain conscious and awake throughout the session, and will be able to easily follow my instructions.
(The idea that you’ll be fully asleep or unconscious during hypnosis is a common myth - and made all the more confusing seeing as the word ‘hypnosis’ comes from the Greek word ‘hypnos’ meaning ‘sleep’!).
In hypnosis, you’ll be in a heightened state of consciousness, which allows us to uncover the subconscious root of a problem or symptom and introduce suggestions for shifting to more positive beliefs and behaviours.
