What I can say as a hypnotists we call those techniques self-hypnosis & anchoring. The golfer was given homework - asked to regularly listen to hypnosis recordings to cement in ‘anchoring’. Every time the golfer touched his golf club - his entire mental state changed - he was ‘anchored’. He would calm down, re-focus, and mentally do whatever it is that golfers do. 


For some people, Golf is a serious game of ‘craft’ (spy-craft) - penpals, invisible ink, Soviet spy’s, double agents, encrypted messages hidden inside secret-compartments of the handles of golf clubs, ping-pong rackets, badminton bats & tennis rackets. Maybe that was just in a John Le Carre novel  - A deep fascination with calm targets.


For others Golf, is the spiritual-game-of-Manhood. On a quest to conquer the course to Master their mind, keep their eye on the prize, afterall, in the movie Star Wars, the wise Obi-Wan Kenobi said ‘Your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them’


If you watch the world's greatest all-time-goal-scoring football player, The man who has ‘got an eye for goals’ - Alan Shearer's last ever penalty goal for Newcastle United..

Notice his technique - He looks & looks-away from the goal two or three times (very quickly) before he scores. For any goalkeeper that has been up against Alan Shearer, even if, ‘their eyes see past the illusion’ of where they think Shearer is going to strike the ball into the goal, the experiment of the “vanishing ball” illusion suggests still a third (⅓)  will still get it wrong. For example, a magician - tosses a ball up and down - he looks up - and the students believe the ball has vanished, but the truth is the ball is still in the magician's hand - 68% get it wrong. To get sciency, it was monitored with ‘eye tracking cameras’ and it  turns out everyone looks at the same place. In a different test the magician again, tosses a ball up and down - this time he doesn't look up -  30% still get it wrong. 


We all know most tennis players look great - and they literally ‘look-great’ these, Grand-slam masters slow-the-ball-down in their mind, so it's a lot easier for them to hit the ball. Let’s be honest, How else can you hit a ball traveling at 190-200 km/h? (120 mph). Hypnotists distort time by manipulating  the same wizard words you use like the ‘Presupposition of the Subordinate Clauses of Time’: before, after, during, as, since, prior, when, while, and verbs  like: begin, end, stop, start, continue, proceed, already, yet, still, anymore… to create a sense of  timelessness, spacelessness and comfortable feelings, we call them temporal predicates (Temporal as in time).


Hypnosis also allows subjects to explore time in ways that clock time would make it impossible - for example, imagine looking back at your entire life without any sense that you ever rushed or were in a hurry.

Time distortion, was used in the study titled the ‘Feasibility of Hypnosis on Performance in Air Rifle Shooting’ with promising results. When you think of ‘age-regression’ - hippies, rainbows & tarot might be front of mind.  Here's the nice part about hypnosis, it is goal focused, you can throw away your age-regression and swap it for age-progression. In this study the Swiss shooting team, mentally time traveled to the end of the competition, saw how many ‘bulls-eyes’ they scored - and traveled backwards in time ( in hypnosis).


The rifle guys and & pistol guys, do something different. Richard Bandler, the inventor of NLP was invited to study the ‘USA pistol training’ to find out what they all had in common and he has worked with the-Greats-of-Golf. While you might think, they all do the same thing, it's all a little different. 

Haven't we all, experienced attempting to give ourselves ‘Zoom’ eyes, trying to read the numbers on the front of a bus, reading what time the train leaves? Trying to find a friend on the beach on a warm summer's day. That's what the golf guys do. When they are ready to Tee-off, they look down the fairway several times before they take a swing - That's why they don't swing at the ball the first time - they look back and forth a few times - and give themselves eagle-eyes.

Whereas when you think of rifle guys that shoot like 3000 yards - Mucho, Massive Hunks of men might spring to mind - If you do, you've got it all wrong.  These highly receptive zen rifle guys go into a profound altered state, and they even meditate.

The olympic guys go into a mediation (they give themselves eagle-eyes) so when they pick up a rifle or a golf club they literally wake up and make things appear much closer.

Like a blueprint that can be recalled

You now step up and take your shot allowing your subconscious to use the blueprint

You take your shot and it is exactly as it was in your imagined practice swing

You are happy because you have played a fine shot

An excellent shot

You continue with your round of golf

Feeling your pleasure with your game increasing with each hole

You are playing easily and skilfully

You will not second guess yourself but instead use all of your vast knowledge from your previous games of golf
