The Simplest OCD Management Technique to Help You Break Free From the OCD Trap

When you think about OCD, you might think about someone obsessively cleaning their countertops or needing to check at least ten times whether they've remembered to turn the gas off.

And the fact is, these kinds of behaviours can definitely be linked to OCD - along with a whole host of others relating to all manner of activities and actions.

People with OCD often engage in rituals that make them feel more at ease in the moment. In the field of psychology, the term ritual can be used to describe a repetitive behaviour that is used to neutralise or prevent anxiety.

But while these rituals may feel to the sufferer as though they’re alleviating their anxiety, they’re actually trapping the person in a continuous cycle of repetitive behaviours - even when they really don’t want to engage in them.

As OCD expert Dr Reid Wilson highlights, OCD is “manipulative, cunning and clever”. Dr Wilson describes OCD as a game - and, crucially, this is a game that someone can choose not to play anymore.

However, consciously choosing to quit the game and walk away is by no means easy. But one thing that can help is hypnotherapy. By helping you address deep-rooted patterns and behaviours that are holding you back from living the life you want, hypnosis can help you break free from the destructive cycle of OCD.

Finally, I want to share with you one incredibly simple hypnosis-based technique that you can use any time you start to feel the ‘OCDemons’ calling. It’s seriously as easy as breathing in and out - but it has the power to bring you back to the present and realise the immense potential you have within yourself.

Here it is...

The One Simple OCD Management Technique: Releasing Anxiety Through Deep Breathing

I want you to take a deep breath in and a long, relaxing breath out.

Now, imagine that you are slowing down. Not just your body, but your mind too. Your thoughts are becoming slower.

Take another deep breath in and begin to feel a sense of power and well-being within yourself. In this moment...with this breath...you are in complete control.

As you breathe out, turn your attention to what is being released from your body. Experience this moment of sweet release.

By giving full focus to your breath, you can clear your thoughts. What’s more, you can begin to find and feel the inner confidence that’s always been there, but is now fully awake, present and visible to you.

As you continue to breathe in and out...slowly and consciously...you can embark on this beautiful journey of discovery into the fully capable person you are. Remember, the person who’s in control of you is you.

That’s it. Breathe in and breathe out. There’s nothing more you need to do.
