Two Powerful Pain Reduction Tricks Using Hypnosis

Throbbing, pulsing, sharp or dull. Utterly excruciating or an annoying ache that won’t quit. Whether it’s a headache or a toothache, a menstrual cramp or a broken bone - one thing we can all agree on is that when it comes to pain, we’d do anything to get shot of it.

Before you reach for the Advil, I want to let you in on a little secret - hypnosis can be an incredibly effective tool for managing pain and even alleviating its physical presence. It turns out that simply by shifting our subconscious, we can approach pain differently and reduce the hold it has over us.

Seeing as pain is an unavoidable consequence of life, wouldn’t it be nice to have a trick or two up your sleeve that you could pull out when pain strikes and tap into the power of your mind in order to kick pain to the curb?

I’m going to share two utterly fabulous pain reduction hypnosis techniques that you can use anytime, anywhere. So take note of the following techniques and be ready to put them into action next time nasty pain threatens to ruin your day.

Pain Reduction Hypnosis Trick 1: The harmony restorer

To begin this technique, you’re going to imagine you’ve just received a rather mystical promotion. You’ve been promoted to the role of ‘white knight’ - the commander of your white blood cells responsible for healing your body.

So, let’s get to work. Why not start by breathing a big beautiful cloud of white light over the area of your pain? Feel its soothing presence melting away the painful sensations and easing the pain.

As you’re in control of your white blood cells, you can order them around and get them to clean up the ‘mess’ that’s causing the pain in the first place. Put them to work bringing order and harmony to your body, until everything is healthy and glowing.

Take things to the next level and command your white blood cells to raise their standards until they’re positively bursting with strength. Until you can feel the abundance of life’s force pumping through your body, pulsing with vitality.

Be proud of yourself, white knight. You’ve fulfilled your duty and successfully reduced your pain.

Pain Reduction Hypnosis Trick 2: Healing oil for your brain

So, in order to understand how this next technique works, I’m going to get a bit ‘sciencey’. But don’t worry, there won’t be an exam at the end!

As you may know, our brain operates using a series of signals and messages that come to it from different parts of the brain. Pain itself is a signal - the brain literally gets ‘told’ that the body is in pain.

While you don’t need to know the names of all these different brain areas, you should be aware of a couple of key parts.

The thalamus is the part that regulates all your sensory pathways (except smell), so it’s heavily involved in processing these pain signals.

Below the thalamus is the hypothalamus, which is responsible for homeostasis, i.e. regulating your body temperature and making sure everything in your body is balanced and in harmony.

And finally, endorphins are our body’s natural painkillers. They’re found in many areas of the body and are ready to jump in to put a stop to the pain signals firing around our brain.

Ok, time for the technique...

I want you to imagine the thalamus part of the brain that I described above (if it helps, it’s shaped a little like a man’s ball sac!). Now, imagine this area is being coated in some sort of healing oil or liquid.

Because of this healing substance, the thalamus can no longer send or receive pain signals to other parts of your brain or body. So make sure you coat it well - and why not send it some love while you’re at it?

Now move on to the hypothalamus. Do the same thing, applying your healing oil to this part of the brain so it can only send positive, pleasant sensations to your brain and body.

If you like, you can keep working your way through your brain, lovingly coating each area with this magical healing oil until the only sensations that can be felt are beautifully warm and cosy. No pain, no discomfort, just a whole lot of bliss.
